Kuwait to deport 280,000 expats a year

Kuwait is facing an over-population problem due to the fact that 64% of its residents are expatriates, MP Dr. Khalil Abdullah tells Kuwaiti newspapers “Al Rai Daily”, The current expatriates community is around 2.5 million while the locals are around 1.1 million, which is creating an economical and unemployment problem in the marketplace, pushing the authorities to deport 280,000 expats per year for the next 5 years in order to restore the balance.

The deportation of expats will be selective, keeping those who are deemed essential for the national market and economy growth and loosing the ones who can be replaced by Kuwaiti locals.
